Drain Cleaning and Snaking

T

The foundation of any drain cleaning company is its pipeline cleaning service procedure. The history of drain cleaning parallels the history of common drain systems itself. As a result of the changes in materials used in the building process there is not an extensive history of cleaners in the United States as metropolitan drainage systems were not readily available to the middle-class homes until the early 20th century. Prior to this, Americans often discarded the dirty water collected in basins after use. Originally, lead-based materials were used in drainage systems until after WWI when it became more well-known that lead was a poisonous material and piping was reconstructed with galvanized iron.

This leads to the first issue with homes that used galvanized iron for their pipes as iron is actually steel covered in a protective layer of zinc. It has since been discovered that the zinc layer naturally corrodes due to exposure to the elements. Once the corrosion occurs to the base metal, plaque and rust begin to form, leading to sediment build-up that gradually clogs and leaks to these drains. This leads to the first major wave of drain cleaning necessities.
The continuing struggle against corroding galvanized iron piping eventually led to the replacement by copper or plastic (PVC) piping by the late 1960s. PVC pipes do not have the zinc layer; however, natural substances such as hair, grease, and other oils continue to be the issue that clogs drains. Oils can come from many common soaps and shampoos as they are mainly oil-based products.

Flushing harmful chemicals, and products down your drain along with natural hair and grease can harm your systems. You should NEVER boil water and flush it down your drain as the high temperature of the water can corrupt the wax ring of your toilet and compromise the PVC piping in your home. Using harsh Drain-O type products can damage your piping as well.
Common signs of a drain or water line issue on the horizon are gurgling sounds and a slow running drain. The number one cause of drain and sewer line issues are flushing baby wipes down the toilet. Toilet paper is designed to degrade and break down in water; however, baby wipes do not.

At Ultimate Drain Cleaning and Service, LLC, we specialize in the drain cleaning processing using state of the art Rigid equipment to unclog your drain without compromising your drainage systems. Give us a call or schedule your appointment for your drain cleaning and snaking needs.

Main Water and Sewer Line Service and Replacement

The water that enters your home comes from a few common sources. Most homes are either supplied by a local town or municipality or by a well water system.
In a municipal supplied water system, the water in your home comes from a reservoir, water tanks, or water towers from a hydraulic or hydrologic pressured fed flow of water through a system of pipes from a pumping station. The water enters your home through your main water line and is distributed throughout the home. The sewer or wastewater in a municipal system leaves home via the sewer line and enters back into the water system to be cleaned in a treatment facility. These are two separate lines that can become corrupted and in need of repair and replacement.

A well water system can trace its origins back to China over six thousand years ago. Until recent centuries, all artificial wells were pumpless hand-dug wells. Current well systems are drilled, driven, or dug into the earth to access water sources such as a water aquifer. The water in this system is pumped into your home via jet pump, submersible pump, or pressurized cistern system. The water enters the home via the main water line similar to the municipal system. The wastewater in this type of system typically runs through the sewer line into a septic tank where the waste material is broken down and disposed of in a drain field.

As the owner of your home in a municipal supplied system, you are responsible for the water and sewer lines that run between your home and the street. Both the main water line and sewer line are the homeowner’s responsibility when they leak or fail and are two distinct service lines. In a well water system, you are responsible for the entire water movement process.

In both the water and sewer line services, there are several issues that can arise leading to several tell-tell signs of a problem. Standing water in your yard means that there is a leak or failure along one of the lines. This could be a collapsed line or one that has roots growing into the system and comprising the line. If there is a failure in the sewer line you will typically see a backed-up toilet, flooding in the home, or worst of all, is a sewer gas smell. This gas is hydrogen sulfide and ammonia which are extremely toxic to humans and animals. Also, in many cases the pitch or grade of the sewer line is incorrect leading to the backup and potential failure of the sewer line. You typically do not see this type of failure in the water supply line as it is pressurized and not in need of a particular pitch.

We are Ultimate Drain Cleaning, and Service is here to help with your water and sewer line repairs and are fully insured and licensed to get the job done right.

Hot Water Heater Repair and Tankless On Demand Systems

The hot water tank in your home is primarily responsible for delivering safe hot water throughout your home. In most cases, the source of heating fuel can vary from natural gas to oil or even electricity. The appliance in your home uses the fuel source to heat the water and send to down the hot water lines to your faucets in your sinks and showers.

The history of the heated water system dates back to London, England to 1868 where a painter named Benjamin Maughan invented the first instantaneous domestic water heater that did not use solid fuel named “the geyser” after an Icelandic gushing hot spring. The more traditional “tanked” system was developed around 1889 by Edwin Rudd in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the company that keeps the Rudd name to this day.
In a “tanked” system household, the water is contained a cylindrical vessel or container that continuously heats the water to a set temperature where is it then ready to use once the demand is requested by a faucet in the home. The tanks are usually between 40 and 50 gallons with a burner rated at 34,000 to 40,000 DTU an hour. There are some higher efficiency tanks available as well for those keeping an eye on lower utility bills as well as being greener for the environment. The drain from a cost perspective comes from the fact that the water is being constantly heated even when there is no need for hot water at the time. Think of it along the lines of having hot water being made while you are at work and no one is home.

In 2015, as part of the National Appliance Energy Conservation Act, new minimum standards for efficiency of residential water heaters were set by the United States Department of Energy went into effect. This sets a 60% efficiency rating which represents a slight improvement from older tanked systems.

For the utility bill and environmentally conscience homeowner, a tankless system offers the best of both worlds. A safe hot water system that delivers on-demand water without the additional cost of heating water when it is not being requested. In a tankless system, the heater is usually turned off but is equipped with a flow sensor which activates it when water travels through them. Since there is no finite tank of hot water that can be drained, the heater supplies a continuous supply.

A few signs your current hot water system may be a failure and in need or repair or replacement include a general lack of hot water, popping or rumbling noises, cloudy water, rust in the water or on the tank itself, or water leaking from the tank onto the floor.

Whether your need is a tanked or tankless system, our experts at Ultimate Drain Cleaning and Service are ready to help get the job done right.

Video Camera Line and Homeowner drainage Inspections

The foundation of any plumbing system is the pipes, valves, and fixtures that water travels through from its source to its destination. A problem can arise anywhere within the system and sometimes a systematic analyst needs to done to pinpoint where the problem is located without digging up an entire yard or destroying pipes that are in proper working condition. Have you noticed standing water or wet patches in your yard? Constant sewage stoppages and slow drains? These are just a few of the signs there may be a line issue.
Here at Ultimate Drain Cleaning and Service, we use high tech and state of the art video camera line inspection tools to take the guessing out of a sewer and water line repairs. Our tools are safe for all types of pipes and verify the quality and condition of the piping. We will insert a camera down the line, following the flow of the water, and inspect the inner workings of each of the lines to identify the spot that is causing the issue. This irreplaceable tool helps us identify if the issue is a grading issue, a clog in the system, or a collapsed line. In many cases, tree roots may have invaded the line causing a clog, a collapse in the system, or a disjointed line.

Our video camera system records a real-time interaction which can then be dissected by our expert technicians to first and foremost identify the problem but also allows us to tell the exact location in the yard or home so no unnecessary and unsightly holes in the yard need to be dug or drainage lines damaged. The inspection verifies the health and condition of the pipes and saves valuable time and money on the possible excavation needed.

Sump Pumps, Garbage Disposals, and Water Filtration Systems

A few of the more overlooked and forgotten about drainage systems are the ones that can cause the biggest headaches and costliest repair bills as they are overlooked and forgotten about until a problem arises. Here are Ultimate Drain Cleaning and Services we specialize in the repair, installation, and replacement of sump pumps, garbage disposals, and water filtration systems. The sump pump system is essentially a system that collects potentially damage, causing water into a basin and pumps the water safely out of the home avoiding a backup or flood of the lowest level of the home. In some homes, pumps frequently run due to high water table, water draining into the system from French Drain configurations, or environmental and weather conditions. The basin and pump equipment should be properly inspected and maintained every year as both the pump itself and float switch can fail which causes the water not to evacuate the home. If you frequently have water in your basement, a sump pump can be a solution to avoid both water and mold entering your home. Keeping your home mold-free, safe, and dry is Ultimate Drain Cleaning and Service mission.

The garbage disposal unit is a product used almost entirely in America and was invented in 1927 by John Hammes in Racine, Wisconsin. Food waste and scraps represent approximately 15% of all household waste today. The garbage disposal unit uses internal blades and shreds food waste into pieces small enough to pass safely through the drainage infrastructure of a home. This electrical unit can jam or break just like any other appliance. Under no circumstance should anyone put their hand into the disposal unit. Call us to inspect and repair your disposal unit. This is definitely a job left to the trained professionals.
In many parts of the world and even parts of our country, the accessibility to safe and clean drinking water is a luxury not available to everyone. Water filtration systems help provide filtered drinkable water. In most homes fed by well water and many homes that have lower quality municipal fed water, a water filtration system is part of the plumbing superstructure. If anyone has ever heard of a Brita filter than you are familiar with a filtering system.
Home filtration systems remove harmful contaminants such as Chlorine, Lead, Mercury, Arsenic, Iron, Hydrogen Sulfide, and Manganese to name a few. The town or well feeds untreated water into the home where it is passed through a number of filtering methods such as a brine tank and water softener to produce clean and treated water on demand. Many water filtration systems control hard water and corrosion along with the removal of the pollutants found in the water entering the home and extend the useful life of many appliances in the home. Here at Ultimate Drain Cleaning and Service, LLC we pride ourselves in making sure your water is safe and taste delicious. Call today or schedule your next appointment with us.
